Due to the broad nature of the topics addressed, it may not be feasible to respond to every question in detail. Furthermore, answering some queries in detail may necessitate dedicating an entirely different tutorial. Brief replies to such queries will be provided in this module, however detailed content will be developed separately as required.
Let’s answer some questions!
Naresh A. inquires:
“I previously worked as a ‘Test Engineer.’ Recently, I have been appointed as a Test Lead in a product-based firm. Right now, there is no existing testing process. As the Test Lead, I am entrusted with the responsibility of designing a standard process for the entire testing flow and also maintaining documentation for each product.
Could you guide in developing a test procedure and educating me on the Test Lead responsibilities, and also tell me about the documents that I am expected to create and manage?”
As a Team Leader, it’s your responsibility to plan and schedule the project, communicate its status to your supervisor, and most importantly, assign and monitor the project work. Your primary duty is to build a team that helps you succeed in achieving your project goals.
You will also need to effectively manage the challenges faced during the project. This will promote the growth and performance of both your team and the project. As for the standard testing process, it depends on you – what procedure you intend to establish? Some might object to this suggestion, however, I prefer to construct my own procedures that work out for me.
I tend not to adhere to those antiquated procedural definitions penned and managed during the 1990s, most of which are probably not applicable today.
The Test Lead is answerable for incorporating any changes to the project plan into the Test Plan. It is your duty to create a Test Plan and Test Strategy (in some scenarios, it might be composed by a senior test team member or even the Project Test Manager). You must ensure that the work aligns with this Test Plan. Identify any risks and try to mitigate them.
At the conclusion of the project, the Testing Life Cycle makes certain that all testing objectives are achieved and the acceptance criteria are fulfilled.
Additional responsibilities of a TL include carrying out Test Case Review, validating the requirements, overseeing the execution of both manual and automated test cases, and preparing test summary reports. It also involves discussing the test status with seniors and preparing relevant documentation.

Pavan Ankus inquires:
“I’m applying for QA positions in the US. Could you please mail me probable challenging scenarios in Manual Testing? Additionally, as I lack domain knowledge in Insurance, finance, and other financial fields, I find it difficult to communicate to the interviewer as an experienced professional.
In this context, could you provide me with an appropriate response to tackle the interviewer?”
This question is common in every testing interview – “Can you describe any challenging scenario you encountered in your previous projects or mention any bug that makes you proud to have detected it?”
The response to these questions will vary for each individual depending upon their career experience in testing. Almost everyone would have faced various challenging circumstances which necessitated innovative thinking to resolve the issue.
We advise you to choose such a scenario from your experience and describe it effectively. Ensure that it sounds demanding. This will help you confidently face further queries from the interviewer based on your response.
The main challenges in Manual Testing encompass: Ensuring comprehensive test coverage? Manual testing without leveraging automation tools is a significant challenge in itself.
You could also divulge the non-technical challenges faced during Manual Testing like managing the testing work during crucial periods (referring to testing under time constraints), that is, wrapping up the testing before the deadline, or worst-case scenario, if the deadline itself is unattainable.
Detailing a complex bug that you detected during your career could also serve as an appropriate response to this question. For instance, a bug that was hard to detect, reproduce, or one that had a significant impact on customer revenue, etc.
Pavan, you mentioned that you lack knowledge in the fields of banking and finance. What kind of response are you expecting from yourself? If you lack experience in the domains of banking and finance, then do not falsely claim it as a skill in your resume merely to align your profile with the needs of potential employers.
If you are keen on venturing into testing in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) domain, then begin by studying this Domain. Gain a basic understanding of the key concepts of the BFSI domain. Visit our Resource page to access all the resources listed for the BFSI domain. Remember, you can provide a detailed response to any question only if you possess firsthand experience working on it.
Mitch inquires:
“What is the most effective method to request a pay raise? Does comparing and graphing bugs found against other team members help?”
Comparing bug count with other team members or teams is not a good strategy to request a pay rise. If you’ve worked with the team for an extended period, your employer is already aware of your value and importance within the team. Proving that your bug count graph surpasses that of your peers is unnecessary.
So, what is the most efficient way to request a reasonable salary increase?
During your performance evaluation, you need to convince your reviewer about your arduous efforts for the team, your successful handling of difficult tasks, and the measures you took to enhance your skills to better suit your existing work profile. If you manage to achieve this negotiation, then a fair pay increase is assured.
Other factors taken into consideration while considering pay raise include: Relevant Skills, Complexity of the application you’re working on, problem-solving skills, total and directly relevant experience, education, and certifications.
